Poor man of deep misery!

How does the vanquished heart so young
Sick with poisoned devotion
With youth’s merry song still sung
Hold up walls of recollection!

How dare the false romance bind
The young man’s heart so tight
The eyes of his love struck blind
Hold true to long past sight?

For what morning bird does sing
The passioned sorrow song
The ballads of a broken king!
Cast aside his crown so strong

Beware twisted trunk of love!
The hallowed tree does yield
None but soured fruits above!
Wandering hearts congealed

The man who dares to venture ‘ere glade
Met with a shadowed fate
Set down his royal cloak and laid
Lost to the world of late

So set foot not in loves darkened forest
Eat not the fruit’s false blush
Lay not your head to rest
In dew drowned in fruit crush
